Alexander Street Selected to Deliver Jisc Multimedia Content
Agreement provides 3,600 hours of Jisc-licensed video to UK HE and FE institutions
Reading, UK – Alexander Street, the world's largest provider of academic streaming video, has been selected by Jisc to host and deliver a range of high profile audio-visual collections licensed by Jisc for use by higher and further education institutions in the UK.
From 1st September a new service called MediaPlus will deliver multimedia content from major providers such as ITN, Getty Images, and the Wellcome Library, comprising over 100,000 items. The collections are currently delivered by the MediaHub service, which will retire at the end of August.
Through MediaPlus, Alexander Street will provide a new and improved service to all existing and new subscribers. All Jisc-licensed content will be accessible from Alexander Street's platform and be cross-searchable with other Alexander Street multimedia collections, giving subscribers access to a much wider pool of high quality curated content, tools, and services. MediaPlus will sit alongside more than 140 other collections from Alexander Street, including the Teachers' TV video collection currently available for free from Alexander Street to UK higher and further education.
As a specialist provider of multimedia content, Alexander Street already has strong penetration in the UK academic market and is committed to the continuous development of its products. This will ensure that the Jisc-licensed content can reach a wider audience and deliver an improved user experience to all subscribers.
"Over the years technology has changed and so has online user behaviour and the availability of digital content from a range of services. This is an exciting development and we are honoured to have been selected to serve the Jisc content to the UK academic community through the new MediaPlus service," said Adam Gardner, General Manager for Europe at Alexander Street. "Delivering the Jisc-licensed content alongside our other collections gives UK scholars an unprecedented opportunity to incorporate video and other multimedia in their teaching, learning and research.”
Paola Marchionni, head of digital resources for teaching, learning and research at Jisc said, "Our collaboration with Alexander Street is part of Jisc’s continued commitment to provide high quality and competitive services to our sectors. Alexander Street’s track record in delivering multimedia content will make sure that Jisc’s substantial investment in audio-visual collections is maximised and that teachers, students and researchers have continued and improved access to key archival material that traces the history of the 20th century.”
