Counseling and Psychotherapy Transcripts, Client Narratives, and
Reference Works
TRANSCRIPT CONTRIBUTORS’ FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
I have a
collection of transcripts that I would like to submit. How do I do so?
Please begin the process by contacting Susan Gay, Editorial Consultant,
at
callfortranscripts@sagepub.com. Please include in your message the
number of transcripts you would like to submit, the source of the
transcripts, the type or method of therapy depicted in the transcripts,
and any other relevant notes about your transcripts.
How will the
transcripts be used?
The transcripts will be included in a large-scale electronic anthology
of primary sources in the field of counseling and psychology, jointly
published by SAGE Publications and Alexander Street Press. The database
is designed to provide students, researchers, and practitioners with a
valuable primary resource of the experience and practice of therapy.
How are you protecting the rights of the clients whose therapy
sessions are recorded in these transcripts?
Protection of the rights and anonymity of therapy clients is of the
utmost importance to us. Each transcript will adhere to the American
Psychological Association’s Ethics Guidelines for use and anonymity.
They will be thoroughly edited to preserve the anonymity of the client
and releases will be obtained for each transcript included in the
collection. If therapists wish to omit their own name from the
transcripts of individual sessions to further protect the identity of
their clients, then the transcripts will be further edited. In addition,
an editorial board of distinguished practitioners and academics oversees
the project and ensures that all transcripts included adhere to our
guidelines for use.
Do I need to edit the transcripts for anonymity before I submit them?
We prefer to receive submissions of transcripts that have already been
edited for anonymity by the contributing researcher or practitioner.
However, we will accept a sample unedited and can then give you guidance
to edit your other transcripts.
I have a collection of transcripts, but I do not currently have
releases granting me permission to publish them? What do I do?
If you have obtained a client release that covers using a transcript for
research purposes, you may be covered for its use here, because the
purpose of this database is academic research. We will be happy to
review your release form. If you do not have a signed release form, we
can provide one to you. We do not have to be part of the process of
obtaining consent, and we never need to know the real name of the
client. We will simply provide you with the tools necessary to get
permission, if you need our help.
