ALEXANDER STREET AND
EBSCO PUBLISHING ANNOUNCE AGREEMENT LINKING RILM, CLASSICAL MUSIC
LIBRARY
Mutual
Subscribers Are Able to Link from RILM to Classical Music Library
July 17, 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Researchers studying classical music are now just a click away from
hearing the piece they are reading about. EBSCO Publishing and
Alexander Street Press are allowing their mutual library customers
to link from the research database
RILM Abstracts of Music Literature
(RILM) in EBSCOhost® to music
supplied by
Classical Music Library from Alexander Street Press.
This partnership will allow customers of both services to better
take advantage of the articles in RILM and be able to listen to
audio components from the composer of the works they are
researching.
Alexander Street’s
Classical Music Library
is a comprehensive, online collection of tens of thousands of
distinguished classical recordings that users can listen to in
streaming audio over the Internet. Useful for scholars, music
instructors, students, and audiophiles, the collection is fully
searchable, with selections from every period, from Medieval to
contemporary—and virtually every genre, from choral works to
symphonies, operas, and the avant-garde.
EBSCO’s RILM is a comprehensive, ongoing guide to publications on
music from all over the world. The database is designed for
scholars, students, librarians, performers, teachers, and music
lovers. RILM provides broad yet detailed coverage and facilitates
both focused research and browsing for readers of all levels.
Craig Brandt, director of humanities & social
sciences at EBSCO Publishing, says this agreement is a perfect fit
for users. “These databases complement each other, deepening the
research experience for those studying classical music. Classical
Music Library is one of the largest online audio libraries for
classical music and RILM is a leading music research database.” He
says the linking agreement creates a new element for users. “Adding
an audio component to research so that people are able to access
information while listening to a piece of music enhances their
study, allowing students to better understand classical music.”
In the
second phase of the project later this year, links from Classical
Music Library back to RILM will be added, giving customers the
broadest range of access to both online resources.
