| AMERICAN
FILM SCRIPTS
Claiming to be the most highly structured and
best-indexed electronic archive of American films, this Web site
mostly lives up to its own description. Containing approximately 1,000 film scripts, it is deeply and
broadly indexed by film, genre, theme, and filmmaker, allowing the
user various means of accessing scripts (and scenes) by topic, a
particularly useful feature. Both
film scholars and casual users will find much of interest here, from
research to information useful to those learning the art and crafty
of filmmaking. One
particular pleasure may be comparing scripts for films with multiple
versions (Little Women or A Star is Born,
for example), or examining in detail the ways in which the scripts
reflect what actually has gotten on the screen. The site is handsomely constructed and provides a handy
guided tour of its multiple departments. Thus far the site emphasizes films from the golden age of
sound to the present; this reviewer hopes the site will expand to
include more independent films.
Summing
up: Highly recommended. Users
at all levels. Reviewer: J. Fisher, Wabash College
