Indexer
Alexander Street Press is looking for a
qualified candidate to index project materials at Alexander
Street Press’ main office in Alexandria, VA. The position is
a short-term contract position (IRS-1099), working 35+ hours
a week from October to February.
The indexer position requires working knowledge of subject
area of a product and will be responsible for creating
detailed indexing records according to product
specification. Indexers are also required to perform quality
checks for accuracy of indexing.
Potential candidates must have the following:

Bachelor’s degree in Humanities or
Social Sciences: especially History (American history
preferred), Literature, or American Studies.

Be computer savvy with good working
knowledge Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to learn and apply specific
procedural standards.

Strong organizational and record
keeping skills.

Ability to write reports and
summaries in various formats.

Effective written and spoken
communication skills.

Self-motivated.
Desirable:
-
Reading knowledge of a foreign
language (esp. French, Spanish, German, Portuguese,
Latin, Greek, or Hebrew.

Master’s degree in a subject
specialty.
-
Significant knowledge of 19th
century American History and/or 19th century photography
and imagery.
