Software Developer

Alexander Street Press is an award-winning electronic publisher, providing innovative products to academic and public libraries worldwide. Highly regarded in our field, we produce online collections of textual, audio, and video materials, and create tools to enable academics to find, use, and perform research on these materials.

We're looking for a software developer to expand our team, and the successful candidate will enjoy a challenging and stimulating role, which actively encourages creativity and innovation.

Technical experience requirements include:

• Required: Strong PHP, mySQL, JavaScript, HTML and CSS skills
• Required: 1-2+ years developing Web based applications
• Required: Database design, development and object oriented programming in PHP, MySQL
• Required: Moderate Internet IT experience with server related skills including domain management, Database management (MySQL), PHP
• Required: Experience with unit testing and version control
• Nice to have: experience in XML, working with a global development team,audio/video streaming, understanding of Agile software development methodology, C#, SQL Server, Action Scripts

Other Skills/Experience:

• Required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Required: Excellent code commenting and adherence to standards
• Required: Strong organizational and time management skills
• Required: Self-motivated, and able to multi-task
• Required: Able to function independently and still work well in a "team oriented" environment
• Required: Ability and willingness to perform production support and configuration management roles as necessary
